System Log
System Log is a straightforward and easy-to-use graphical log viewing utility that provides access to the system event logs and diagnostic messages generated by the operating system, system services, and hardware components during the current Active@ LiveCD session. It serves as an essential diagnostic and troubleshooting tool, allowing you to monitor system activity, investigate errors and warnings, and gain insight into the behavior of the system and its components in real time.
The main interface displays a categorized list of available log files in the left panel, allowing you to quickly switch between different log sources depending on the type of information you are looking for. The right panel displays the contents of the currently selected log file, presenting log entries in chronological order with each entry showing the timestamp, severity level, source component, and message text. Color coding is used to visually distinguish between different severity levels — informational messages, warnings, and critical errors are each displayed in a distinct color, making it easy to identify and focus on the most important entries at a glance.
System Log provides a built-in search and filtering function that allows you to narrow down the displayed log entries based on keywords, date and time ranges, or severity levels. This is particularly useful when working with large and rapidly growing log files, where manually scrolling through thousands of entries to find a specific event would be impractical. The filter controls allow you to quickly isolate relevant entries and focus your attention on the specific events or error conditions you are investigating.
Within the Active@ LiveCD environment, System Log is particularly valuable for monitoring the results of disk operations, tracking hardware detection events when new storage devices are connected, identifying driver errors or hardware compatibility issues, and reviewing the output of system utilities and background services. Log entries can be selected and copied to the clipboard for inclusion in support requests or diagnostic reports. When running Active@ LiveCD from a USB drive, system log preferences are preserved between sessions.
