About the Operating System

Because the Active@ LiveCD ISO image has been created using the OpenSUSE Linux operating system and is based on the Xfce desktop environment, it provides access to many essential Linux features and utilities through a Xfce-style user interface.

The bootable image contains a variety of plug-ins, drivers, utilities, and applications.

The following are additional advantages of the Linux and Xfce-based LiveCD:

  • BIOS and UEFI compatibility — It does not matter whether your computer uses a legacy BIOS or UEFI Secure Boot. The GRUB boot manager will boot the system correctly in either case.
  • Package installation — After booting from LiveCD, you can download and install any Linux packages (RPM), such as OpenOffice or the Mozilla Firefox browser.
  • Session persistence — When booted from a USB drive, all user settings as well as downloaded and installed packages are stored on the USB device, preserving the session. All settings will be restored on the next boot.
  • Standard dialog support — Standard system dialogs such as File Open, Save As, and others are fully supported.
  • Security — Networking and SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) are included.
  • Plug and Play (PnP) support — Hardware devices can be detected and installed while Active@ LiveCD is running. This includes any PnP-compatible device, such as removable media and mass storage devices, allowing you to plug in a storage device to recover data from or use it for backup purposes.
Note:

Two Active@ LiveCD packages are available. The first is a free public evaluation version in which applications run in Demo mode and not all functions are available. The second package is provided to customers upon purchase of a registration key. Both packages can be activated with a registration key.
