Find and recover partitions

To find and recover deleted partitions and logical drives:

  1. Start the Active@ Partition Recovery

    From the Active@ LiveCD shell, click Applications > Accessories > Active@ Partition Recovery or click the Active@ Partition Recovery shortcut on the desktop. The Active@ Partition Recovery workspace appears with all available devices listed in a tree view under Local System Devices.

  2. To scan unallocated space, select it. Known details of the selected item are displayed in the right pane.
  3. To scan the unallocated space in basic mode:
    • Click Quick Scan. The status bar displays the progress of the scan.
    • After the scan is complete, a list of all allocated and unallocated partitions appears in the Local System Devices list.
  4. If a logical drive is not visible, select the entire disk and click SuperScan to process the full disk surface. The Super Scan Options dialog box will open.
  5. Configure the SuperScan options as follows:
    • From the Scan What drop-down list, choose the type of data unit (sectors, bytes, MB, GB) for SuperScan to use.
    • To restrict the scan to a specific range, specify the starting sector and the number of sectors to scan.
    • Select the checkbox next to each partition type you want to scan.
    • Click Start. The status bar displays the progress of the scan.
    • After the scan is complete, a new folder named SuperScan will appear in the Local System Devices list.
  6. To filter SuperScan results:
    • Right-click the SuperScan device node folder.
    • From the context menu, choose Filter…. The Filter Found Partitions dialog box appears.
    • In the File Systems area, clear the checkboxes next to any file system types you do not want to display.
    • In the Volume Size area, specify the minimum and maximum partition sizes in megabytes to filter results by size.
    • In the Filter Type area, click Use Basic Filtering to filter by partition status, or click Use Advanced Filtering for NTFS-specific or FAT-specific filtering parameters.
    • Click Filter. The right panel displays the filtered results.
  7. To manage SuperScan results:
    • To resume a stopped SuperScan, right-click the folder and choose Resume from the context menu.
    • To save scan results, right-click the SuperScan folder and choose Save Scan Results. Saved results can be reopened at a later time.
    • To delete a SuperScan folder, right-click the folder and choose Delete.
    • To view detailed properties of a SuperScan folder, right-click the folder and choose Properties.
  8. To recover a deleted or damaged partition, select it and click Recover. The Active@ Partition Recovery parameters dialog box will open. Configure the recovery options as follows:
    • From the Assign Disk Letter drop-down list, select the correct drive letter to ensure Windows assigns it properly.
    • To set the recovered partition as active and allow the system to boot from it, select the Set Partition Active checkbox.
    • The recovery process checks the boot sector and repairs it if damaged. Select Automatic or Manual depending on your preference.
    • If the disk has an extended partition, select the Create Extended Partition First checkbox and/or the Use ALL Unallocated Area checkbox, if available.
    • To save a copy of the current partitioning information before recovery, select the Backup Current Partitioning Info checkbox and specify the file name for the backup.
    • Click Recover.
The partition is recovered at the specified location.
